SAT/PSAT

A good SAT score can help you get into your dream college. The SAT consists of four sections: Reading, Writing & Language, Math (Calculator and No Calculator), and Essay (Optional). Students are allowed to take the PSAT once a year, and their junior year scores will count towards the National Merit Scholarship.

ACT/PreACT

The ACT is an alternative to the SAT. The ACT consists of five sections: English, Math, Reading, Science, and Essay (Optional). The PreACT is designed for 10th graders to assess how well they are likely to do on the ACT. It is not tied directly to any scholarships, but some merit scholarships are interested in PreACT scores.

SSAT/ISEE

The SSAT and ISEE are part of the admissions process for private, independent, and boarding schools. For most students, these exams are challenging and delve into above-grade-level content. Each test has two math sections, a verbal section, and a reading section.

SHSAT

The SHSAT is for students in grades eight or nine who want to enroll in New York City’s specialized high schools. A competitive score on this test gives one a ticket to a first-rate high school education. In 2017 and 2018, the test format underwent a series of changes.
