My Medium Article: You Do Not Have to Be a Genius to Ace the SAT/ACT
A week ago, I wrote an article for Medium on growth mindset versus fixed mindset, why mindset matters, and how students can achieve their SAT/ACT goals. It is common for students to say they are bad at something, whether that be taking a test or a specific subject in school. While it seems innocuous, that negative voice actually influences confidence, performance, and decision-making and holds students back. Switching to a growth mindset should be a priority in education and test prep.
There is also the false belief that high-scorers are simply smarter or more capable than everyone else. But high-scorers mainly have the skills needed to perform well. The SAT and ACT are proficiency exams with a high amount of predictability. The question types and content rarely change. As a result, students are able to practice and master the skills needed to achieve higher scores.
